Composite Inlays and Onlays

Durable and aesthetically pleasing, composite inlays/onlays restore teeth affected by moderate decay or damage, preserving the natural tooth structure the upper arch and lower gum line in a horseshoe shape, removable for nightly cleaning. Partial Dentures, comprising artificial teeth on an artificial gum connected by a metal framework, prevent adjacent teeth from shifting by filling gaps and maintaining the alignment and integrity of the remaining teeth.

WHAT IS COMPOSITE INLAYS and Onlays?

Dental filling, also known as teeth filling, is a treatment method aimed at restoring missing tooth structure, which may have been lost due to decay or trauma. Decay can create hollow areas within the tooth, and dental filling is employed to fill these gaps, providing protection against further decay. This procedure is also utilized to repair broken or cracked teeth, as well as teeth that have worn down due to habits like teeth grinding or nail biting.

Complete dentures are recommended when all natural teeth are missing. These dentures are custom-made to fit over the upper teeth and roof, as well as on the lower teeth in a horseshoe-like arrangement. Classified as conventional dentures, they are removed during the night for cleaning.

WHEN DOES ONE NEED DENTAL FILLING?

Dental fillings may be required based on various signs and symptoms, including:

1. A hole in your tooth

2. Dark spots on the tooth

3. Food getting stuck between certain areas of the teeth

4. Chipped or broken tooth

5. Sensitivity to hot and cold food and beverages

6. Presence of single or multiple cavities

If you experience any of the mentioned symptoms, there is a possibility that you may need a dental filling. However, the final decision will be made by your Endodontist after a thorough oral examination.

PROCEDURE OF DENTAL FILLING

Dental filling, or teeth filling, is typically needed when a tooth is decayed, aiming to prevent further damage and protect the tooth. The procedure involves the following steps:

1. Assessment of Tooth Severity:

   - The Endodontist evaluates the severity of the infected tooth to determine if the dental filling is suitable, particularly for minor fractures and decay.

2. Examination and X-ray:

   - An examination of the tooth is conducted, and if necessary, an X-ray is performed for precise information.

3. Local Anaesthesia:

   - Local anaesthesia is administered to numb the area around the infected tooth, ensuring a pain-free procedure.

4. Tooth Preparation:

   - The decayed or damaged parts of the teeth are prepared for restoration. Dental handpieces or lasers may be used to remove damaged areas.

5. Filling Application:

   - A filling material is applied to fill the cavity. The type of filling depends on the specific case and individual preferences

6. Polishing:

   - The finished tooth is polished, concluding the dental filling procedure.

CONSEQUENCES OF NOT GETTING A DENTAL FILLING DONE

Failure to address decay promptly can lead to severe consequences:

- Enamel decay exposes the Denton, leading to infection.

- Infection causes sensitivity, requiring dental fillings.

- Untreated infection can reach the nerve, necessitating a Root Canal Treatment.

- Risk of infection spreading to adjacent teeth, making them prone to decay.
